Kupwara, Dec 14 (KNS): A young Wushu athlete from Kupwara district has won the Gold Medal at the Nordic Wushu International Championship held in Sweden from December 12 to 14, bringing international recognition to India.
The athlete, trained under the Khelo India programme, won three high-level bouts during the tournament. He defeated Italy in the opening match, secured a knockout victory against Bangladesh in the second, and overcame host nation Sweden in the final to claim the top podium position.

The programme aims to strengthen India’s sporting ecosystem and provide young athletes with opportunities to compete internationally.
“This victory demonstrates how structured training and support at the grassroots level can produce champions on the world stage,” an official said.
