Srinagar, Mar 17 (KNS): Members of J&K Media Association on Tuesday met a 3-member team of Press Council of India, presently on a visit to Kashmir valley.
The Association members discussed various issues and challenges facing media in Kashmir. The team was apprised about various issues related to the approved and non-approved newspapers in Jammu and Kashmir besides difficulties faced by the entire fraternity due to the internet gag post-August 5.
The delegation also sought to redress of various other issues confronting media. The PCI team gave a patient hearing to the members of the delegation and assured them that their issues will be taken up with concerned authorities.
The delegations stressed the need for giving relaxation on various accounts to the approved and non-approved newspapers during unrest or internet gagging.
The three-member team of press council of India is headed by Balwinder Singh Jammu, Kamal Nain Narang and Syed Razvi Hussain Rizvi. The media delegation comprised of President Tariq Mir, Chairman Nazir Makhdoomi , Press Secretary Zahoor Bhat , General secretary Arshid Mir , Organizer Zahoor Shaheen , and senior members Noor Mohammad and Bilal Ahmad Darzi.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
A statement issued to KNS reads, general secretary of J&K Media Association Arshid Mir said that after August 5, Information Department provided internet facilities to media persons at Hotel Sarovar Dalgate and later set up such facilities at media centre at Poloview here.
He hailed the role of Director Information Dr. Sehrish Asgar. He said that the officer ensured all facilities like internet and availability of computers to media persons. Mir said all the employees of the information department lent good cooperation to media persons during internet gagging in Kashmir valley. Arshid Mir said that association is thankful to Director Information Dr. Sehrish Asghar, Deputy Director Information Mr. Mohammad Ahsan Ahmad, Joint Director Information Haris Handoo and others.
