Srinagar, Feb 05 (KNS) ; In a significant move for the engineering cadre, the Jammu & Kashmir administration has approved a major revival and expansion of the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED), a commitment hailed as "historic" by engineers' representatives.

The decision, approved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, involves the creation of 235 new posts—115 engineering and 120 non-engineering positions—across various levels within the department.

The All J&K Engineering Services Forum has extended its "sincere gratitude" to the Chief Minister for "upholding the commitment made to the engineering fraternity." Forum President Er. Nasir Amin termed the decision "unprecedented in the history of Jammu & Kashmir," stating it would mark a "transformative step" in strengthening urban infrastructure and environmental services.

The Forum stated that this expansion would "significantly enhance" the institutional capacity of the UEED, leading to better delivery of essential public utilities and urban development projects across the Union Territory.

Crediting the swift processing of the proposal, the Forum also expressed appreciation for the role played by Commissioner Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department (HUDD), Mrs. Mandeep Kour (IAS), for her "personal persuasion in getting all the technicalities addressed."

The Forum reiterated its commitment to contribute to "sustainable urban development and improved civic services" in the region following this administrative boost. (KNS)
