J&K ACB Nabs RDD Official for Taking ₹40,000 Bribe in MGNREGA Scam

 Srinagar, Mar 12 (KNS) ; The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a technical assistant of the Rural Development Department (RDD) in Budgam for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ?40,000 for clearing pending bills under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

 
An official spokesperson stated that the ACB received a written complaint against Sajad Ahmad Raina, a Technical Assistant at the RDD Block Budgam. The complainant alleged that Raina was demanding a bribe of ?40,000 to process and release bills for work already completed under the MGNREGA scheme.
 
Following verification of the complaint, which confirmed the demand, the ACB registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act at its police station in Srinagar.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
 
A trap team was subsequently constituted. "The team laid a successful trap and caught the accused public servant red-handed in the office of RDD Block Budgam while demanding and accepting a bribe of ?5,000 in cash and a cheque of ?35,000 from the complainant," the spokesperson said.
 
During a search of the accused's handbag, an additional amount of ?39,300 in cash was recovered. The accused was taken into custody after completing medico-legal formalities.
 
Further investigation into the case is in progress, the official added. (KNS)
