SRINAGAR, MARCH 08:(KNS)  Asserting that gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan, today said that the present era marked the biggest social change due to removal of inequality among genders which gave due recognition to women of our country.

Advisor made these remarks while addressing a large gathering of womenfolk on the occasion of International Women’s Day at Tagore Hall here.

Advisor said that for any progressive society, it's imperative that women get ample space to express themselves as they form the cornerstone of households. He said that the whole world will prosper when nations and organizations work to ensure that every woman is given the same opportunities to grow and progress.

Highlighting this years’ theme of International Women’s Day ‘Breaking the Bias’, Advisor Farooq Khan said that the time has gone when there used to be bias against women. He added that the world which used to be male dominated has now changed and the women are making a niche for themselves in today’s modern times and gaining their fair share of power in all fields of life.

Elucidating contribution of J&K in different fields, Advisor Khan said that women from J&K are making a significant impact in different fields with their persistent and constructive efforts of nation building.

Advisor said that women have raised the honour of J&K as well as country across the globe in the fields of business, sports, education, agriculture, engineering, innovation and medical field.

Advisor Khan on the occasion also lauded Rakshanda Mehak from Jammu who clinched bronze medal in World Deaf Judo Championship held at Paris Versailles, France. He also praised the Wheel Chair Basketball player Insha Bashir for making the country proud.

He added that women are beacon of light for our society and no one can stop them from realizing their dreams adding that they will be the face of ‘Naya J&K and Naya Bharat’.

Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole, said that the world is changing and women are taking up every field and making their contribution at all levels and the government has initiated several schemes for women empowerment.

In her welcome address, Mission Director, ICPS, Shabnam Shah Kamili said that this country has a long history of women emancipation.

On the occasion, artists from Firdous Dramatic Club performed a skit on the theme of day highlighting the bias against women bedides artists from Sonzal Art Cultural Organization also mesmerized the audiences with their colorful performances.

Later, Advisor Khan felicitated 10th, 12th class meritorious girl students, girl sports persons, businesswomen and several women welfare officers on the occasion.(KNS)
