International Women’s Day: Female students speak their minds at the Amar Singh College seminar

Srinagar 08 March (KNS): To mark the International Women’s Day, Amar Singh College Srinagar organised a seminar on the global theme of “Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in COVID-19 World” which was attended by the students of the city colleges.


 Dr. Khurshid A. Mir, Controller Examinations/Registrar Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) was chief guest on the occasion while as Dr. Mujahid Ahmad, Dean Social Sciences CUS and Dr. Deeba I. Sarmad, Dean Humanities and Liberal Arts, CUS attended as Guests of Honour. Prof. Tariq Ashai, President College Teachers’ Association was present as Special Guest of the occasion.


 The day-long event was presided over by Prof Maqsood Hussain, Vice Principal of the College.
Earlier Prof Bashir A. Rather Principal of the College inaugurated the seminar through online mode and delivered the welcome address.  
 
In order to hear their views with reference to IWD , the female students of number of city colleges were provided a dedicated segment of the seminar to speak their hearts and minds. This part of the seminar witnessed passionate and emotional speeches by the students who emphasized on the “need of emergence of a conscious society wherein girls are encouraged and fostered the ways boys are.”  The participating students included Tanmeet Kaur from Gandhi Memorial College, Asma Jan from GCW Nawakadal, Mehak Fatima from IASE, Insha Salam from GDC Hyderpora, Danishta Zahid from Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial College, and Simrandeep Kaur from the host college. Falak of the host college read out  short story “Jawhar” written by Dr. Gazala Gayas, HoD English.


The student participants were presented Certificates of Participation by the Dr.Khurshid A. Mir while as Certificates of Appreciation were presented to the distinguished guests by Prof Nighat Shafi, Convener Women’s Development Cell of the College.


The proceedings of the seminar were conducted by Prof Syed Kousar Andrabi, assisted by
NSS volunteers Atoofa Bashir and Tehleel Bilal.


The seminar theme was introduced by Prof Suzain Rashid and the Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Tawseef Ahmad.


The Rapporteur for the event was Dr. Syed Beenish Geelani.
Dr. Tawseef Ahmad and Dr. Omar Amin were coordinators of the seminar.  
The seminar was organised by the Women’s Development Cell and the Seminars and Debates Committee of the College. (KNS)
