On the eve of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking being observed every year on 26th June, Handwara Police organised awareness rallies and seminars at various places to generate awareness about drug abuse and its impact on the youth.

 

According to a statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), reads, at GDC Handwara, ADC Handwara, ASP Handwara, Principal GDC Handwara, doctors from District Hospital Handwara, teaching and non teaching staff of GDC Handwara, student of various schools in addition to students of GDC Handwara participated in the event.

 

      ASP Handwara Irshad Hussain-JKPS  gave an elaborated view about the menace of drugs, its sources, causes, consequences, role of every members of society. While speaking on the event, ASP Handwara said that the issue of drug abuse is a challenge before  the country. It is the duty of all stakeholders to join in creating awareness about the illegal use of  drugs and the  measures to be taken  to prevent this menace. He said that substance abuse has affected human rights in every aspect.  He appreciated participants for being part of the event.

 

He also said that to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, public cooperation is necessary and stressed upon the participants to share information related to  illicit drug supply in the area so that appropriate action under law may be taken. ADC Handwara, Principal GDC Handwara and other faculty members of GDC also highlighted the causes and consequences of drug abuse and assured their possible support and cooperation for a peacful environment.

 

A rally on motorcycles was also conducted with the banners & placards on drug abuse  which started from BHSS Handwara and culminated at GDC Handwara, passing through lanes and sub lanes of town Handwara.  

 

Other programmes were also held at GHSS MH Pora Kralgund, GHS Mandigam where DYSP PC Kralgund alongwith SHO PS Kralgund addressed the participating students about the ill effects of drug abuse and adverse impact on health of individuals. Similarly in the jurisdiction of PS Qalamabad, PP Magam, PP Chogal and PP Zachaldara concerned incharges addressed participants and held rallies to educate general public about the ill effects of drug abuse and the aim of observing this day every year.(KNS)
