Int’l community’s silence over Chattisinghpora massacre unfortunate: Hurriyat (M)

‘Demands thorough investigation, punishment to murderers’

Srinagar, Mar 20 (KNS): On the 16th anniversary of Chattisinghpora massacre, Hurriyat (M) spokesman Sunday termed silence of international community and rights bodies as “unfortunate” and demanded thorough investigation and punishment to the murderers involved in the gruesome act.
Spokesman said that 16 years ago 36 innocent civilians belonging to Sikh community of Kashmir were brutally killed, and killers were neither brought to book so far nor was the crime investigated impartially so that the offenders could be brought to book and justice provided to the victim families. He said the criminals involved in this notorious act were still roaming free which amounts to rubbing salt on the wounds of the victim families.
While appealing international rights bodies to take strong notice of the human rights violations are being committed in Kashmir, spokesman said forces in the past 25 years have carried out dozens of such massacres in Kashmir including Gaw Kadal, Handwara, Kupwara, Hawal, Bijbehara, Aali Kadal, Shopian, Sopore and other incidents.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“Government enquiries into all these bloodsheds proved only a cruel joke while as authorities under the garb of black laws resorted to cover these incidents and protect the offenders,”he said.
In another statement the Hurriyat (M) has expressed solidarity with those families of Karnah, Ganderbal and other places whose houses got damaged in the landslides and flash floods due to the incessant rains in past few days.
The spokesman of Hurriyat (M) stressed that immediate steps should be taken for the rehabilitation of the affected families.
Expressing grief over the death of dozens of Baltistan and Azad Kashmir residents and over the death of more than 40 people in Pakistan due to floods in which hundreds of houses have been washed away, spokesman expressed his heartily condolences and sympathies with the bereaved families and with the Governments of Azad Kashmir and Pakistan.
