Kupwara, July 08(KNS): A soldier and a militant was killed in an encounter on friday as Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said here.
An army officer told the Kashmir news service (KNS), that the bid was foiled in the wee hours as Army noticed suspicious movement close to the LoC at frontier district's Tangdar sector.
He said that the infiltrators on being challenged opened fire, triggering the gun battle. In the firing exchange, a militant was killed and a an army soldier was also killed.
The official futher said a massive combing operation is underway in the forest area to trace other members of the infiltrating group.
The army officer identified the slain soldier as Jawan Jasvir Singh of 6 JAK Rifle. Besides, he said that one AK-47, four pistols, three AK-47 magazines, three pistol magazines, five grenades, Pakistani currency and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the killed infiltrator.(KNS).
