Srinagar, May 08 (KNS): The IRCS-J&K State Branch celebrated the World Red Cross Day, 2019 at Government Girls Hr. Secondary School, Kothibagh, Srinagar to commemorate the birth anniversary of the founder of Red Cross Movement, Sir Jean Henry Dunant under the theme “LOVE”.
Muhammad Younis Malik (KAS), Director, School Education, Kashmir was the Chief Guest and Aamir Ali, Director, Disaster Management, J&K was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. The function was inaugurated by hoisting the Red Cross Flag in the lawn of GHSS Kothibagh.
A Painting and Handwriting Competitions was also held on the eve of World Red Cross Day-2019 on 7th May, 2019 with the students of Abhedananda Home, Solina, Srinagar about the said theme. The First three winners of the said competitions were awarded with the trophies and all other participating students in the competitions received participation certificates.
In his welcome address, Rajesh Sharma, General Secretary, IRCS-J&K Chapter and Additional Secretary to Governor, highlighted the objectives of celebrating World Red Cross Day. The General Secretary told that the objective of the day is to continue to position the reach and relevance of the movement and its capacity to assist the hardest-to-reach communities leaving no one behind.
The dignitaries present on the occasion include Ali Muhammad Mir and Roma Wani, State Managing Committee Members, M.R. Mattoo, Hony. Mohammad Younis Malik, Director School Education, Kashmir in his address commended the Red Cross Society for rendering humanitarian services to the people in distress. DSEK advocated for strengthening the Red Cross Movement among students and assured that the Red Cross activities shall be implemented in all schools across Kashmir region. DSEK also stressed upon the inculcation of the volunteerism among the people through our students.
Aamir Ali, Director Disaster Management, J&K lauded the efforts of Red Cross while delivering services to the victims of disasters. Aamir Ali stressed on the need for collaborative efforts of the Disaster Management Department and Red Cross in making the communities resilient to disasters.
During the function, the students of Abhedananda Home who earlier participated in the Painting and Handwriting Competition were awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes by the guests. Among others Dr. Itinderpal Singh Bali spoke on First Aid, volunteers from different districts and the Stage Secretary, Fayyaz Ahmad Fayyaz, participants of GHSS, KothiBagh and Abhedananda Home were honoured by the Chief Guest.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from G.A. Qureshi, Treasurer, IRCS, J&K State. Mr. Qureshi thanked all the participants in general and the volunteers in particular who always remain at disposal within their communities. (KNS)
