Srinagar, Mar 02 (KNS): The senior Hurriyat leader and Jammu Kashmir National Front chairman, Nayeem Ahmad Khan on Thursday said that the Indian claim that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is about ‘terrorism’ is a ‘false narrative’ and a desperate attempt to divert the attention of the international community from grave human rights violations being committed on the state level in the disputed region.
According to the statement issued to KNS, Nayeem in his presidential address to a party meeting at Kupwara stressed upon the UNHRC to act against ‘the Indian state terrorism in Kashmir’ before it is too late.
The meeting according to the statement was addressed by many party office bearers.
Referring to the 33rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council UNHRC which commenced in Geneva, Khan stressed upon the UNHRC to act against the ‘Indian state terrorism in Kashmir before it is too late’.
“The Indian claim that the deteriorating human rights situation in Jammu Kashmir is an internal affair of India is factually incorrect, legally untenable and in violation of the UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution,” Nayeem Khan said.
He added that equally false is the Indian narrative that the situation in Jammu Kashmir is about terrorism.
“This is a patently desperate attempt to divert the attention of the international community from the grave human rights violations being committed by Indian forces on peace loving Kashmiris,” he said.
Terming India as an “occupying power”, Khan said, “The situation in the disputed Jammu Kashmir is grave and people are being brutalized by the police and Indian forces so that they can give up their just struggle for the inherent right to self-determination.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel”
He said that the people of Kashmir will continue their struggle to achieve their birth right despite all ‘Indian oppressions and brutalities’.
He called on international community and forums like the United Nations to take concrete steps against the grave and systematic violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the disputed Jammu Kashmir.
“The right to self-determination is an inalienable right of the Kashmiri people, and the issue is pending final settlement through a free and impartial plebiscite under UN auspices as enunciated in numerous resolutions of the UNSC,” he said.
He stressed that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights should send at a team to the disputed region to independently and impartially investigate the grave human rights violations being perpetrated by Indian forces. “We believe an independent, impartial and international mission is needed crucially and that it should be given a free and complete access to establish an objective assessment of the situation,” he said and appealed “UNHRC needs to act now on Jammu Kashmir before it is too late”.
Meanwhile, Nayeem Ahmad Khan later visited the residence of late Mukhtar Ahmad Bhat in Gucchi, Kupwara and condoled his demise.
Deceased was brother-in-law of Ghulam Qadir Bhat of Gucchi, Kupwara who is languishing in jail since 23 years. (KNS)
