New Delhi, Aug 18 (KNS): The opposition INDIA bloc leaders are set to meet today to discuss their joint candidate for the post of Vice-President.
According to sources, the meeting will be held at 10:15 am in the office of Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha.
This comes a day after the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) named Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the country’s second-highest constitutional post. Radhakrishnan, a senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu with an RSS background, is expected to draw wider political support, including in his home state which goes to polls in 2026.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Announcing his nomination on Sunday, BJP president J.P. Nadda said the NDA would reach out to opposition parties to build consensus.
The Congress-led INDIA bloc had earlier indicated that it may field a joint “non-political” candidate for the election.
The Vice-Presidential election is scheduled for September 9, following the sudden resignation of incumbent Jagdeep Dhankhar last month. The last date for filing nominations is August 21.(KNS)
