Srinagar, Oct 29 (KNS): As mainstream parties including Peoples Conference (PC) and Congress claimed the support of independent candidates for mayoral position in Srinagar, one of the independent councilor on Monday refused to support any party for the position.
After taking oath today as councilor in Banquet hall here, independent candidate Sheikh Imran said: “We have a good number of like-minded councilors who are willing to extend their support to independents only.”
He said that aligning with other parties will be tantamount to “digging our own graves”.
“We will not support any party but if there is any party who want to work on Common Minimum programme for the development of Srinagar then we welcome that,” he said, adding that the independent councilors will stake claim for mayor post soon.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The councilor also said that whosoever will become Mayor but the difficulties people are facing at present for getting Date of Birth Certificates (DoB) and other things must end.
Earlier, the Congress and PC sounded positive about bagging the post of Mayor in Srinagar.
Peoples Conference candidate Junaid Azim Mattu has emerged as frontrunner for the mayoral positiom. Junaid according to sources, enjoys support of 39 councilors. (KNS)
