Increase in ration quota insufficient: Valley traders

Demands 15 kg ration per head

Srinagar, Mar 15 (KNS): Terming the enhancement of 2 kg’s of rice per head as “insufficient” for the people, the Valley traders and shopkeepers demanded that the ration quota per had should be increased to 15 kg’s.
While talking to KNS over phone, President of Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), Muhammad Sadiq Baqal said that the government decision to increase 2kg’s of rice per head is ‘insufficient’. “Government should enhance the monthly ration quota to 15 kg per head,” he demanded.
He said that the people of Kashmir are rice eaters and before taking such kind of decisions, the government should have looked seriously into it so that it could have accommodated the aspirations of people.
“With such kind of issues, it seems that the government will soon suggest that what Kashmiris should eat and what not,” he said.
President of Kashmir Traders Federation (KTF), Haji Jan Muhammad Koul also termed the quota as ‘insufficient’ and said that the Kashmiris are rice eaters and are being forced to beg before higher ups.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“The government has not achieved any goal by deciding such kind of things. It won’t bring any relief among the people but are only rubbing the salt on the wounds of people,” Koul said.
He said that the decision will only lead to the increase in black marketers who are minting money from the poor people here. “The government should provide ration to the people as per their expectations,” he told KNS.
While terming the increase in ration quota by the government as ‘insufficient’, Chairman of Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA), Haji Muhammad Yasin Khan told KNS that the government should conduct a survey in this regard so that they could come to know about the real situation on the ground. “After conducting the survey, the government should accordingly announce ration quota to the people here,” he said.
