Jammu, May 28 (KNS): Rajiv Khajuria Member Selection cum Oversight Committee (SCOC) under JJ Act inaugurated incinerator for the disposal of sanitary napkins at Nari Niketan R S Pura Jammu.
The programme was organised by Child Welfare Committee Jammu and Mrs. Shalini Sharma Chairperson CWC Jammu , Dr. Sheetal Manhas, Mrs. Mumta Sharma both CWC Members , Dr. Anupa Sharma Noda Officer ICPS Jammu, Vikrant Sharma Supdt. Bal Ashram and staff and children of Nari Niketan were present on the occasion. The incinerator was donated by Dr. Arun Arora of Pushpanjali Foundation on the request of CWC Chairperson Jammu.
CWC team also distributed sanitary napkins among the girl inmates of the Nari Niketan and addressed their queries with regard to menstrual health and hygiene.
Rajiv Khajuria SCOC Member lauded the role of CWC Jammu for such innovative initiative and asked the other homes to replicate the same in their respective institutions.
Pressing on the need of the importance of menstrual health and hygiene, he reiterated the national commitment for menstrual health and hygiene facilities for girls in all homes, schools and institutions where girls are residing.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He termed the right to menstrual hygiene as one of the basic human rights and called upon various stake holders to work on this issue to achieve sustainable development goals and fulfil national and international commitment to the rights of girl child and women.
Khajuria appealed the education and social welfare department to work in close coordination to make menstrual hygiene and facilities accessible to all girls and women in the state.
He informed that due to poverty and ignorance, many girl children remained absent from schools and lose major chunk of their studies due to lack of awareness and facilities.
Khajuria said that world menstrual hygiene day is an opportunity and platform to educate girls/women and their families and reiterate Nation’s joint commitment to realize menstrual hygiene and health to all girls and women’s of the country. (KNS)
