Bandipora, Jan 14 (KNS): Inaugural function of 27th Road safety week started by Assistant Regional Transport Officer Bandipora Mukhthar Ahmad with Tata sumo Rally from Main Bus stand Bandipora around the town.
The rally was flagged off by chief Guest Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Mr sajad Hussain.
The inaugural programme was organised by Assistant Regional Transport Officer Bandipora.
Deputy Superintendent of police DAR Ab Rashid was also present on inaugral function and he threw light on road safety measures.
The Road Safety Week is organised every year to create awareness among general public to improve the safety on road.
Road Safety Week 2016 is being observed in India from January 11 to January 17.
This year road safety week started from 10th to 16th
January.
The theme for this year's Road Safety Week is set as 'Road Safety - Time for Action'.
People are encouraged about how to drive on road by organizing variety of programmes related to the road safety. Celebrating the road safety campaign was initiated by the ISS India HSE (Health Safety and Environment) in order to make people aware about the national road safety in the Indian sub continent.
ISS India had declared to celebrate the Road Safety Week all through the country in the first week of the month of January.
The aim of this campaign was to emphasize and accentuate people about the need of safe roads travel by applying just simple rules.
According to the information, it has been noted that approximately one lakh people are getting killed per year in the road accidents. India has a very huge population of the road travelers such as two wheelers, four wheelers on the road, that’s why they must know the road safety. It also need efforts from different stake holders such as the community, transport sector, insurance sector, health sector, police, legal sector, educational institutions, highway engineers, vehicle manufacturers, public agencies, NGOs and etc.
Students are given a big opportunity to be participated in the road safety week programme as to change something, youths of the country must understand first. Drivers were directed not to use cell phones while driving. Should use seat belts avoid rash driving, motor cyclist should wear helmets.
ARTO said awareness programmes will be created to spread this message, before enforcing the rule of compulsory helmet usage. Every 30 seconds someone, somewhere in the world is killed in a road crash. Brake works to stop road deaths and injuries by campaigning for safer roads; supports people bereaved or injured in road crashes; and raises public awareness for sustainable transport. Drivers should follow traffic rules in letter and spirit, Should avoid use of high beam light during night.
Department distribute pamplets at various routes regarding road safety.
