Srinagar, Oct 30 (KNS): Commuters Sunday faced immense hardships due to massive traffic jam in the city.
Hundreds of vehicles were stuck in a gridlock traffic jam. The jam was worsened by the wrong parking on roads.
As the clock ticked to 5 O’ Clock in the evening, hundreds of people thronged city markets, the relaxation period announced by separatist leaders.
Massive traffic jam was witnessed at Jawahar Nagar, Rajbagh, TRC, Regal Chowk, Jahangir Chowk and its adjacent places.
Commuters complained that wrong parking in evening hours is worsening the situation. “Scores of private cars are parked on roadsides. Footpaths are occupied by street vendors. There is no space for pedestrians to even walk. They are forced to walk on road which worsens the traffic jam,” Adil Ahmad, a commuter at Polo View told KNS.
A number of pedestrians and private vehicles increased after 5pm at commercial hub Lal Chowk, Hari Singh High Street, Jahangir Chowk, MA Road, residency road, Regal Chowk, Polo View, Dalgate, Sonwar, Pantha Chowk, Habba Kadal, Fateh Kadal, Rambagh, Sanat Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, Rajbagh, Bemina, Qamarwari, HMT and other places.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelTraffic police was also on roads to regulate the rush of traffic.
During the day, considerable movement of pedestrians and private vehicles started in civil lines and uptown on Sunday afternoon. A brief traffic jam was also witnessed at Jawahar Nagar, Rajbagh and Rambagh.
Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed in city centre on consecutive 113th and Shaher-e-Khaas. Offices, shops and petrol pumps remained closed while public transport was off the roads.
“The situation by and large remained peaceful,” said an official.
The official said that restrictions on the assembly of people under section 144 CrPC remained in force in Srinagar. (KNS)
