In a first, five Bandipora youth selected for Hockey National Trials

Bandipora, Nov 13 (KNS): Five youngsters from north Kashmir’s Bandipora district have been selected for the national hockey trial camp.

Beginning their battle against the odds about years ago, the youngsters from 'Mohammadan Sporting Hockey Club Bandipora' have now been selected for the national hockey trial camp.

The national trial camp where five youth including Shahid Shafi, Mudasir Ahmad Akhoon (Junior Nationals), Talib-ul-Islam, Shahzan Shahid and Sajid Ali Buhroo from Bandipora will participate, will be held from today at Green field stadium Gandhi Magar jammu. 

"This is for the first time, these boys have been selected for the national trial that too from Bandipora where sports like cricket and football were always being promoted,” said Irfan ul Haq Malik, who is president of the club.

He said that they have been running the academy in Bandipora for the last ten years but today they feel that it has now brought now colours and they want to keep the youth on this platform. 

"We used to train the boys at SK Sports Stadium Bandipora and they were always encouraged that they would one day succeed. We hope that they will succeed in the trials too," he added. 

Malik also appealed to the youth to pay more attention to sports activities that will keep them mentally fit and healthy as well. 

Notably, this is the first time five youth from Bandipora have been selected for Hockey National trials. (KNS)
