Srinagar, Dec 29 (KNS): A large number of illegally extracted gravel and sand was seized from Langate nallah by the officials of Geology and Mining, Irrigation and Flood Control and Police on Saturday.
Reports said around 1300 dumping tippers were seized jointly by these officials after they received several complaints regarding the illegal extraction in the Nallah. The material had been stored at multiple places along side of the Nallah and the police have been ordered not to allow anybody to carry the seized material till further orders.
“Anybody found carrying the seized material will be dealt strictly,” Mumtaz Ahmad, district Mining and Geology officer, Kupwara, told KNS.
He said they had received the several complaints regarding the illegal extraction of sand and gravel in the Nallah and they carried a special raid to seize the illegal material.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe raids were carried from Kohru bridge to Batagund bridge, Ahmad added.
“Action against 16 accused has been recommended and the file has been sent to the Director Geology and Mining. They will be fined as per the Land Revenue Act for indulging in illegal activity. More than 20 JCBs were illegally operating in the Nallah,” he added.
It is pertinent to mention that illegal extraction on the Nallah was going unabated from past years and the same was going daily 4-5 hours with heavy machines. (KNS)
