Srinagar, Oct 31 (KNS): Amid unrest, the residents of Sumbal area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday alleged that illegal mud mining goes on unchecked in Jhelum in their area while the authorities are acting as mute spectator.
According to KNS correspondent, Bhat Zahoor, the residents alleged that illegal mud digging goes on in Jhelum River and dozens of tippers of mud are dug out from the river threatening the lives of villagers residing near the embankment of river Jhelum.
The residents said that they have already suffered tremendous loss in the 2014 deluge.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“We must not be forced to suffer the same loss again. We appealed to the higher ups in this regard but nothing has been done in this regard,” they said.
The residents demanded immediate action against the involved persons.
Admitting the facts that such activity is ongoing in these areas, Exen Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) department, Jeel Muhammad, said, “We have already started investigation in this regard. The offenders will be dealt with strictly.” (KNS)
