Ganderbal, May 14 (KNS): Despite imposing ban, the construction on Agricultural land in Ganderbal district especially in Manigam area, which connects two main roads of highway and By-pass had led to shrinking of Agricultural land.

With the construction of commercial ventures, residential houses, shops and other constructions , the agricultural land in the area especially on road sides was being converted into commercial area at a fast pace while as the concerned authorities are acting as mute spectator.

All this construction activity on Agri land is happening despite a Govt banning it, locals said.

“The construction was done under the nose of Tehsil Lar. The area has seen a drastic change during last few years with concrete commercial complexes, houses, workshops and many other buildings coming up on agricultural land,” they said, adding that the Agricultural land which is the only source of livelihood is being snatched in largely.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

They said that there are laws which incorporate banning of the agricultural land for the non-agricultural purposes, but all such laws remain confined only on paper,” they said.

The surge in construction work on agricultural land in Manigam area has put question mark on District Administration ability to implement its own laws on conversion of agricultural land to commercial purpose.

There were approximately 9000 hectares of agriculture land available in Ganderbal district, however in last twelve years approximately 550 hectares have been converted for mostly construction purposes. (KNS)
