Langate, 02 April (KNS) : The officials of forest department of Langate forest range in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district have seized large quantity of illegal timber in Nowgam forests on Thursday.

Sources said that the forest team comprising Range Officer of forest department and Forest Protection Force (FPF)  carried out the raid in Nallah Bagidesh block Nowgam  forests and seized 47 cft, illicit timber.

Local sources said that Nowgam forests is witnessing ruthless felling of trees as timber mafia is active in cutting prized Deodar and Kail trees in the forests.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Talking to our correspondent, the Forest officer said that acting on specific information, the team led by Range officer Mawar, BO Nowgam, Control room Langate and FPF carried out the raid and seized 47 cft of illegal timber on the directions of DFO Langate.

However he further said that a manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits involved in timber smuggling and those involved in smuggling will face strict action as per law.(KNS)
