Srinagar January 30 (KNS): Assistant Regional Director IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar, Dr. Mohd Abdullah, called on the Director in his office at Srinagar. The meeting focused on academic collaboration between IGNOU and the School Education Department, Kashmir. The discussion emphasized expanding access to education, teacher capacity building, and promotion of Open and Distance Learning programmes.
Dr. Abdullah briefed the Director on various academic programmes offered by IGNOU. He highlighted programmes relevant to school teachers and education administrators seeking higher education through distance and online modes. The discussion covered the use of IGNOU certificate, diploma, and degree programmes for in service teacher training, skill enhancement, and continuous professional development of teachers in the region.
Dr. Abdullah stressed the importance of disseminating information about IGNOU programmes among school teachers. He noted that awareness of IGNOU academic and professional programmes would help teachers pursue higher education and skill development while continuing their service.

During the meeting, Dr. Mohd Abdullah also presented the Achievements 2024 to 25 magazine of IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar to the Director School Education Department, Kashmir.
Dr. Abdullah informed the Director that all academic programmes offered by IGNOU follow New Education Policy 2020 guidelines. He stated that the programmes offer a flexible and multidisciplinary approach to education. He added that IGNOU is recognized by the UGC and AIU, placing its degrees at par with regular university degrees. He said this recognition makes graduates eligible for government and private sector jobs globally.
The Director and Dr. Abdullah mutually agreed to strengthen cooperation between IGNOU and the School Education Department, Kashmir. The Director assured that joint initiatives for teachers would be explored. He also acknowledged IGNOU role in enhancing educational access and quality in the region.(KNS)
