IBC J&K Chapter Observes World Standards Day 2025

Srinagar, October 14 (KNS): Indian Buildings Congress (J&K Chapter) organized a Webinar today to mark World Standards Day 2025 on the theme “A Shared Vision for a Better World.” The event was chaired by Er. Aamir Ali, Chairman, IBC (J&K Chapter), who in his opening remarks highlighted that standards form the foundation of quality, safety and trust in all spheres of life. He emphasized that World Standards Day serves as a global reminder of the importance of standardization and its role in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, which calls for collaboration among governments, industry, and civil society to build a sustainable future.
 
The keynote address was delivered by Er. Shah Gazi Suhaib, Legal Metrology Officer, Srinagar. He spoke in detail about the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 and the traceability of standards from working to national and international levels. He elaborated on the importance of uniform standards in weights and measures, their role in protecting consumer rights, and in ensuring fairness and transparency in trade and commerce.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe emphasized that standards are essential for consumer protection, industrial growth, and fair trade practices, underscoring that every citizen benefits from standardization—whether in purchasing packaged goods, using measuring instruments, or ensuring building safety.
 
The session was attended by professionals, engineers and students from various institutions from various States, who actively participated in the discussion. Prominent participants included Er. Rabinder Shekher, Vice Chairman IBC; Er. Irfan Shafi Parray, Honorary Secretary IBC; Er.
