Hurriyat (M) condemns curbs on religious activities on Mirwaiz

‘Govt violating democratic norms’

Srinagar, Apr 30 (KNS): Terming the curbs placed on the religious and political activities of the Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who has once again been placed under house arrest, as yet another clear example of state dominance and dictatorial attitude of the government, an APHC statement Saturday strongly condemned these undemocratic means adopted by the rulers to curb the legitimate activities of the Mirwaiz.
According to the Hurriyat (M) statement issued to KNS, the Hurriyat (M) Chairman, who had to address a Seerat conference at Nasrullahpora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district was placed under house arrest by the state administration early Saturday morning and thus stopped from participating in a religious programme.
Stressing that the government by restricting the movement of the Hurriyat (M) Chairman was violating all democratic norms and established human values, the statement said the ruling coalition was working on the RSS’ agenda and acting more loyal than the king, showing no remorse in persecuting and oppressing the resistance leadership as well as the people.
The statement said the claims of PDP-led government of allowing a ‘battle of ideology’ in Jammu Kashmir has proven completely hollow as it was using dictatorial means to stop the Hurriyat leadership from participating even in religious programmes and condolence meetings not to speak of participation in political programmes.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
On the directive of the Mirwaiz, a delegation comprising of Moulana M S Rehman Shams, Prof. Habibullah Jeelani, Ghulam Qadir Beigh and Moulvi Khazir Muhammad visited Nasrullahpora Budgam where they participated in the Seerat conference and delivered the message of the Hurriyat (M) Chairman to the conference organisers and the people of Budgam. Mirwaiz was scheduled to personally participate in the conference but due to his house arrest could not do so.
On the occasion, the people gathered there protested against the house arrest of the Mirwaiz and termed the government’s action as interference in religious duties of the Mirwaiz.
Meanwhile, the Hurriyat (M) spokesman said an APHC delegation comprising of Muhammad Musadiq Adil, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Khaleel Muhammad Khaleel, Abdul Rashid Untoo, Abdul Majeed Wani and Jaffar Kashmiri participated in Prayer meeting organized by Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front for senior resistance leader Amanullah Khan and paid glowing tributes to the late leader while recalling his contributions towards the Kashmir cause.
Condemning the detention of senior Hurriyat leader, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza at Sher Bagh Police Station for past many days, an APHC spokesman said the district administration by placing him in continuous detention and banning him from carrying his peaceful political activities was undemocratic and against the right of the freedom of expression.
