Srinagar, Feb 02 (KNS): Hurriyat Conference (G) while seeking intervention and cognizance of organizations for human rights organizations, said that detainees in Mattan Islamabad jail are manhandled and ill-treated by authorities.
Condemning the brute and inhuman approach of jail staff towards detainees, Hurriyat (G) said that a notorious and criminal official has been appointed as jailer and he leaves no stone unturned to harass those lodged in said jail.
In a statement issued to KNS, Hurriyat (G) in its appeal to ICRC, International Red cross and other organization for human rights, asked to take their cognizance for excesses perpetrated by jail authorities.
Referring to the reports from those visiting their inmates, Hurriyat (G) said that during frisking, detainees are humiliated and asked to put off all their clothes.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Hurriyat (G) in its statement said that political prisoners are not treated as per jail manual, instead are subjected to more callous treatment as compared to criminals and those involved in severe crimes.
Most of the detainees are suffering from different ailments and no proper medical treatment is provided to them, said Hurriyat (G).
Hurriyat said that a low rank official, who is very confidential and close to jailer subjects prisoners to worst type of torture. Hurriyat (G) in its statement warned authorities of dire consequences and said that ill treatment with detainees is unacceptable.
Hurriyat (G) expressed its sorrow and said though a sub office of ICRC exists for namesake but is defunct and never took pains to visit these jails to file their report about worsening situation in jails. (KNS)
