Srinagar, Jan 17 (KNS): Hurriyat Conference (G) on Tuesday expressed its deep concern over continuous detention of pro-freedom leaders and activists and in its appeal to international community and organisation for human rights, urged to take cognizance for pitiable plight of detainees.
In a statement issued to KNS, Hurriyat (G) said that elderly Shah Wali Mohammad, Ab Subhan Wani, Mohammad Rustum Bhat and others including, Masarat Aalam Bhat, Ab Ahad Para ,Ameer Hamza Shah, Mohammad Yusuf Lone, Mir Hafez Ullah, Mohammad Shaban Dar ,Mohammad Yusuf Falahi, Mohammad Rafiq Gania, Raies Ahmad Mir, Bashir Ahmad Boya, Nasir Abdullah, Molana Sarjan Barkati, Mohammad Rafiq Raina, Mushtaq Ahmad Hura, Mohammad Yosuf Bhat are languishing since long and their detention is being prolonged on one pretext or the other.
Hurriyat (G) said that more than six hundred innocent citizens were slapped infamous PSA and detained in different jails and moreover three hundred more youth are detained in police lockups. They are being subjected to severe torture and vengeance, said Hurriyat Conference (G).
Hurriyat while strongly criticising Mehbooba Mufti led administration said ,that practically it is non-existent and all decisions are taken in power corridors in Delhi and state administration is incompetent to such an extent that it can’t release even a single detainee .Ridiculing the statement of Mehbooba Mufti, wherein she said that people bailed out by courts won’t be re-arrested but it proved an hoax as those bailed out by court are re-arrested and detained in police stations.
Hurriyat (G) said that police arrested people and activists without taking into consideration their age and gender and even elderly and minors were detained and PSA slapped against them.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHurriyat while referring to cases regarding detainees, said that most of the youth were tortured in police stations and jail authorities too are apathetic towards these.
Hurriyat (G) said that in Kathua and Udhampor jails, sub-standard food is being provided to detainees, they are suffering from different ailments and there are no proper medical facilities and instead a nursing orderly has been assigned the job for their treatment. Hurriyat (G) while referring to Jammu jail said, that in these harsh days of winter the jails have no heating system and detainees are facing immense difficulties and lack of basic facilities has multiplied their problems and there is steep rise in winter related diseases among detainees. Hurriyat (G) said that detainees are denied facilities as per jail manual and illtreated by jail staff and while expressing its dissatisfaction and displeasure over the functioning of local branch of ICRC, said that its exitance is for namesake and they least care for the problems faced by detainees. Hurriyat Conference (G) while criticising international institutions for human rights for their criminal silence with regards to political detainees, urged to take serious note and cognizance and asked to impress Indian authorities to honour international charter for political detainees and facilitate immediate release of those, detained under Public Safety Act.
