Hurriyat (G) condemns police crackdown on TeH activists in Shopian

Srinagar, August 4 (KNS): While strongly condemning police crackdown on Tehreek-e-Hurriyat activists and other local youths in Shopian, Hurriyat Conference (G) Tuesday alleged that the Indian forces are playing a very dangerous game by pushing the Kashmiris to the walls and it will have very serious and negative impact over the overall situation of the state.
“The philosophy ‘Goli Nahi Boli’ (no bullets only dialogues) of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has proven to be a big fraud and his government has left the common people on the mercy of the government forces. Likewise in 90s the Indian army and the STF have become pro-active in Shopian district and they have made the lives of the common people miserable. An unending process of the arrests and tortures have been started in the district with the result dozens of youth mostly students have gone into hiding,” Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said in a statement to KNS.
“Citing excuses of the presence of gunmen in the area, the government forces are subjecting the common people to the vengeance and the citizens have been held hostage in place of the Mujahideens. The police have already detained the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leaders like Mohammad Yousuf Fallahi, Shakeel Ahmad Yatoo and Nazir Ahmad Mantoo and now they are preparing for the arrest of acting district president of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Mohammad Amin Ahangar. The army personals stationed at the Imam Sahab Shopian camp conducts regular raids on the residence of Mohammad Amin Ahangar which have forced him to leave the place along with his family. The police and the forces daily raid the residences of the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat tehsil president Javaid Ahmad Falay (Gandpora Shopian), Nisar Ahmad Najar and Parvaiz Ahmad (Sandu Shirmal) and during this process, they harass and threaten their families,” he said.
The Hurriyat (G) spokesman said that the police have not only arrested a civilian Abdul Sabour (Pehlipora Shopian) in place of his brother but he has also been booked under the black law of PSA and has been shifted to jail.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“His cousin brother Ayaz Ahmad Mallah has also been slapped with the PSA. The local people informed the Hurriyat office over phone that the families of the youths who have gone into hiding due to the fear of arrests and tortures and about whom the police are claiming that they have joined militancy are facing the ire of the police and they are being forced to migrate from their native places. Police in the area is arresting brother in place of brother and father in place of son and they are there being subjected to the third degree torture. The people also informed the Hurriyat head-office that the police is demanding hefty amount as ransom money for the release of their wards otherwise they are being warned of booking their ward under the PSA if they failed to pay the demanded amount,” Ayaz Akbar alleged.
While terming the situation as alarming, he said, “Shopian district has been practically handed over to the Indian army and STF and the civil administration looks non-existent in the district. The people of the area are in a very miserable condition and there is no one who can listen into their problem. The period of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is surpassing all the previous records of atrocities and the condition is worsening day by day.”
The Hurriyat (G) spokesman appealed human rights organizations to take serious notice of the “cruelties unlashed upon the common people in Jammu & Kashmir and fulfil their responsibilities in protecting the human lives.”
Meanwhile strongly condemning the arrest of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat activist Farooq Ahmad Bhat of Kupwara by the Lalpora police station, Hurriyat (G) spokesman said “Farooq Ahmad is a political activist and is not involved in any underground activity and his arrest is a revenge politics.”
While terming the arrest of Farooq Ahmad as unjustified, Hurriyat demanded his immediate release.
