Humiliation and Apathy by NC, Yet Congress Supports NC in Rajya Sabha Polls: Tariq Karra

Srinagar, Oct 23 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Congress on Wednesday announced its decision to support National Conference (NC) candidates in the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for Thursday, despite expressing dissatisfaction over the functioning of the alliance between the two parties.

In a letter to NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah a copy of which lies with Kashmir News Service (KNS), J&K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra said the party would vote for NC nominees “as candidates of the alliance” in order to maintain unity against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Karra said discussions over the sharing of the four Rajya Sabha seats “were not a pleasant experience” but added that the Congress was guided by its “values and commitment to secular ethos.”

“Our one-year experience has been of disappointment.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelOur party colleagues in the Assembly and cadres have faced humiliations and apathy,” Karra said in the communication. “However, we have chosen to be on your side to stand united against the BJP’s agenda of atrocities and subjugation.”

He said the Congress’ central leadership had guided the state unit in taking the decision. “Having or not having a share in seats of any institutions is immaterial for us,” he added.

The Congress and NC had entered into an electoral understanding ahead of the 2024 Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir to present a joint front against the BJP.
