Horticulture department organizes world food day

Budgam October 16;(KNS) On the occasion of completion of 75th year of Food and Agriculture Organization, specialized agency of United Nations which leads the international efforts to defeat hunger and improve Nutrition and Food Security, Prime Minister-Narendra Modi released commemorative coin of Rs. 75 to mark the long standing relationship between India & FAO and also dedicated to Nation recently developed bio-fortified varieties of 8 crops. The FAO was formed on 16th Oct 1945 with motto “Let there be bread”.
Director Horticulture Kashmir Ajaz Ahmad Bhat-KAS on the occasion as per programme of Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) for creating “Poshan Vatika” in the Aanganwadis has planted fruit plants in Aangwadi Centre Krimshore in District Budgam. Sarpanches from the surrounding areas alongwith other persons in large numbers participated in the function.
Director Horticulture while addressing the gathering exhorted the public to consume fruits in sufficient quantities as these are rich in vitamins, minerals and fibre. In this time of pandemic, the boosting of immunity by way of consuming fruits should be first priority so as to save the families from onslaught of pandemic.
Director advised the general public to avail the benefits of departmental schemes in plantation, mechanization, creation of water sources, High Density Plantation and many other components being implemented under various scheme.

Later Director Horticulture visited fruit Mandi Krimshare which is under establishment and had interaction with various orchardists. He advised them to establish grading packing line so that fruits are properly and scientifically graded and packed. He assured the famers that Department of Horticulture is committed for the welfare of the farming community.(KNS)
