Srinagar, Oct 22 (KNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday expressed hope that the Congress and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) would support the National Conference in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, helping keep the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out.
Talking to media as per Kashmir News Service (KNS), he said the party’s legislative members held a meeting to plan strategy for the session and to ensure the success of NC candidates in the polls.
“Before every session, party legislative members are being called to make strategy for the session. We held a meeting today to ensure successful Rajya Sabha polls, and I hope the four candidates of NC will secure victory,” Omar Abdullah told reporters.
Commenting on Congress’s absence from today’s meeting, he said that the party has held its own meeting and communicated with the high command. He added that after consulting the high command, Congress is likely to support the National Conference, and he expects the decision to be in NC’s favor, which would help keep the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out.
He also said that the NC had approached the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to seek support in the Rajya Sabha elections.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“We approached PDP today and told them to support us in the Rajya Sabha election. We hope they will support us. But as of now, no formal announcement has been made,” he added.
Omar Abdullah said that the discussions in today’s meeting were part of routine preparations for legislative sessions and coordination among party legislators.
He said that the focus was on securing maximum support for NC candidates in the upcoming elections.
He also pointed out that building alliances and coordinating with other parties is part of the strategy to ensure the NC’s objectives are met in the Rajya Sabha polls. “Coordination with alliance partners and consultations with other parties is necessary to ensure the outcome of the elections aligns with our strategy,” he said.
On the Congress’s position, Omar Abdullah said the NC will wait for the party’s final decision from the high command. He expressed hope that once the Congress communicates its support, it will strengthen NC’s position in the elections.(KNS)
