HMT Area Grapples with Acute Water, Power Crisis; Residents Left at Mercy of Erratic Supply

Srinagar, May 19 (KNS) : The HMT area is reeling under a severe crisis of drinking water and electricity, with residents forced to endure long hours without these most basic necessities, even as the administration remains indifferent to their plight.

In a statement to the press, renowned social activist Ahmad Ayaz expressed grave concern over the worsening situation, saying people are being made to suffer despite tall claims by the authorities.

Ayaz informed that areas linked with the Rangil Water Supply Scheme have faced an acute shortage for the past several days. “The supply was suspended for two days on the pretext of maintenance, and since then it has remained highly irregular and inadequate, causing immense hardship,” he said.

He also flagged the deteriorating power scenario on Feeder-3 at SD Zainakote—once considered among the best-performing feeders with highly responsible consumers.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“Despite completion of cabling and metering works, the area continues to face curtailments, frequent unscheduled outages, and prolonged power cuts,” Ayaz added, slamming the authorities for their lack of action.

The activist criticized the administration for poor monitoring, lack of accountability, and insensitivity towards public concerns. “The worst part is that no one seems to be bothered, and accountability has taken a back seat,” he remarked, noting that continued neglect has left residents deeply frustrated.

Ayaz urged the concerned authorities to immediately restore regular drinking water and reliable electricity supply to the HMT area and fix responsibility for the ongoing mismanagement and inconvenience faced by the people. (KNS)
