Srinagar, July 29 (KNS): In a historic event, the 10th Muharram procession was allowed across the Kashmir Valley on Saturday after a gap of over 30 years, while major procession was taken out in Srinagar by Shia mourners to mark Youm-e-Ashura.

As per details available with Kashmir News Service (KNS), thousands of Shia mourners took out a massive procession from the traditional route of Botakadal to Zadibal area of Srinagar. 

The procession marked a significant event as for the first time in over 3 decades state head participated in the Zuljinah procession when Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha took part.

Amid tight security measures, LG Sinha took part in the procession and also distributed refreshment among the Shia mourners, who were part of the massive Muharram procession.

Meanwhile, senior police officer and officers from civil administration also participated in the procession, which has happened after nearly 34 years in the Kashmir Valley.

National Conference president and Member Parliament Dr Farooq Abdullah also participated in the 10th Muharram procession, which is also known as Youm-e-Ashura.

He walked alongside the Shia mourners along with other leaders of the party and also distributed refreshment among the mourners. 

Meanwhile, Shia mourners also tool massive processions in other parts of the Valley and marked the Youm-e-Ashura. 

In Budgam, massive procession was taken out from Mirgund to Imambargh, in Pattan the procession was taken out from Astanpora to Uakhman and Dever Parihaspora to Imambargh

The processions were taken out from Dab to Imambargh, from Magam to Ahmedpora with Shia mourners paying tributes to Imam Hussian (AS) and his companions. (KNS)
