Srinagar, Feb 15 (KNS) : Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) MLA from Langate, Sheikh Khursheed, on Sunday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of practicing "divisive politics" and maintaining double standards on the issue of land encroachment, questioned the party's current political footing in the Jammu region.
The AIP legislator was responding to recent remarks made by a BJP MLA who allegedly referred to Kashmiris as "land grabbers." Without naming the individual, MLA Khursheed launched a counter-offensive, demanding answers regarding land allegedly occupied by BJP leaders themselves.
Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) MLA Langate said "The member who raised this question said Kashmiri people are land grabbers. We want to ask him to answer question number 211, regarding the eight acres of land he has occupied. He should answer that first,"
He further pointed to other leaders within the party. "He should answer the question about his leader, whose house is situated on land belonging to the JDA. Also, questions are being raised about the residence of his former deputy chief minister, who is currently the LG of Ladakh.

MLA Khursheed alleged that the BJP was selectively targeting the underprivileged while ignoring commercial encroachments linked to its own leadership. "It is not like the way poor people are being questioned, who have small plots just to live. Commercial complexes and land used for business purposes are also involved," he said.
The AIP leader also criticized both the BJP and the ruling National Conference (NC) for what he called "dual speak" on critical issues. "These two big parties, in particular, say one thing inside the House and another outside the House," he claimed.
Questioning the BJP's political standing in the Jammu region, he remarked, "If they sent two MPs from here, if the people of Jammu chose 29 MLAs from here and gave them to the BJP, what do they have now?"
In a direct jibe at the party's ideological approach, he added, "Hindu, Muslim, Kashmiri, Jammu, Non-Kashmiri—what else does the BJP have?" (KNS)
