JAMMU, Feb 14 (KNS) ; In a major push to overhaul the student support ecosystem in higher education, the Higher Education Department today launched the 'SCALE' initiative at PSPS Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhinagar. The programme, conceived by Director Colleges Dr. Sheikh Aijaz Bashir, aims to create a robust, technology-driven academic mentoring framework across the Union Territory.
The launch marks the latest phase of the ambitious 'Student Connect for Academic Leverage and Excellence' (SCALE) project, which is being positioned as a cornerstone of academic reform under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Dr. Bashir, who attended as the Chief Guest, led an extensive three-hour interactive session with students and faculty. The event followed a similar high-impact interaction at Women's College, Parade, signaling the Directorate's aggressive push to bridge the gap between administration and student bodies.
Addressing a packed hall, Dr. Bashir detailed the architecture of the SCALE initiative, emphasizing its role in leveraging digital platforms to guide students. He elaborated on key NEP 2020 features including the Mentor-Mentee Scheme, the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), and the flexibility of multiple entry and exit options. He urged students to utilize academic portals like SCALE and SIGMA as their primary support systems.

In a move towards transparent governance, the Director Colleges took direct feedback from students on infrastructural issues ranging from classroom conditions and washroom facilities to electricity, water supply, and medical amenities on campus. He assured the student body of prompt redressal of their grievances and announced plans for dedicated, focused sessions to address individual academic concerns.
The session was not limited to students; Dr. Bashir also issued administrative directives to faculty members and Heads of Departments, taking note of the practical challenges faced by teachers and promising timely interventions to streamline academic administration.
The programme was convened under the stewardship of Dr. Kulvinder Kour, Principal of the college, who delivered the welcome address. The event was coordinated by a team led by Convenor Dr. Rabia Javed, including Prof. Liaqat Jafri, Prof. Iqbal Qasim, and others.
The SCALE initiative is seen as a visionary step by Dr. Bashir to build a structured academic support system, with a dedicated team now tasked with its systematic implementation across all colleges in the Jammu division and subsequently in the Kashmir Valley. (KNS)
