Hectic parleys on for formation of DDC chairpersons, vice chairpersons

Srinagar, February 5 (KNS): Hectic parleys are going on among different political parties in J&K ahead of elections for the formation of Chairpersons and Vice Chairpersons of District Development Council (DDC) of various districts scheduled to be held on February 6 and 8.

 In district Srinagar, Apni Party has a clear majority with nine elected DDC members, six of them independents who joined the Party recently.

 sources revealed that Apni Party has the support of another DDC member from district Srinagar taking the Party’s tally to 10 DDC members who will decide the fate of DDC Srinagar.

 Pertinently, the elections for the post of chairperson and vice chairperson for DDC Srinagar are scheduled to take place on February 6 at 11 am at the meeting hall in DC office Srinagar.

 Similarly, sources also revealed that in district Shopian, Apni Party has seven DDC members of its own and is likely to have its chairperson with the support of some other members.  Elections for the district Shopian district are scheduled to take place on February 6.

 In Baramulla district, top political sources in different political parties revealed that Safeena Beig is most likely to be elected as the chairperson with full baking of Apni Party which has over five DDC members including two of its own elected members in the district.

 The elections for chairperson and vice chairperson of DDC Baramulla are scheduled to be held on February 8, at 11 am at Dak Bunglow in Baramulla.

 Sources said that in district Kulgam, CPI (M) led by Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami is most likely to form the DDC chairperson backed by Congress and few members of other constituents of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration.

The fate of chairperson and vice chairperson DDC Kupwara is somewhat bleak. Two groups have emerged sofar each comprising five DDC members. Peoples Conference have five members and similarly another group comprising five independent DDC members are in the fray.(KNS)
