Says officials acting as mute spectator

Srinagar, Dec 08 (KNS): Civil Society Forum Kashmir (CSFK) Friday expressed anguish and sorrow over the failure of Health Dep’t in controlling drug addiction in J&K State.
“All the three regions Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh are suffering to the maximum, thousands of lives are getting wasted yet health Dep’t is just a mute spectator,” CSFK said in a statement issued to KNS.
The CSFK said that the pattern of drug addiction in J&K State is that an addict starts with psychotropic medicines like Corex, codeine and capsules and eventually reaches to the level of using heroine.
“If the health Dep’t would have played a responsible role from beginning to control sale of such medicines over the counter and even in open markets, lots of lives could have been saved. But unfortunately health dep’t continues its role as a mute spectator to the problems on our repeated request to health dep’t.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelSince many years nothing prudential has been achieved,” the statement said.
CSFK held health dep’t completely responsible for the spread of drug abuse in J&K State.
They further demanded action against all those officials who are holding important chairs in health dep’t and are acting just as mute spectators to this problem.
“Last six months have been catastrophic as there is a huge shift to use of heroine instead of psychotropic drugs. Heroine is one of most lethal drugs in the world yet our government is a mute spectator. Seventy patients are admitted in one hospital and eighty in other hospital who are addicted to heroin,” they said.
CSFK further appealed government to save lives by controlling spread of drug abuse. (KNS)
