Harassment of journalists in Kashmir unfortunate: Rouf Bhat


Srinagar, April 22 (KNS): People's Democratic Party senior leader Abdul Rouf Bhat in a press statement has expressed his serious concerns over the harassment of journalists and people affiliated with media in JK.
A statement issued to KNS, Bhat said that free, fair Media is the voice of voiceless people and needs to be encouraged at all levels. Harassment of journalistic fraternity will have adverse effects on our society in general and on the journalistic community in particular.
Bhat said that journalism in JK is a real tough job and keeping people aware of the daily happenings is commendable to say the least.
Bhat further said that its unfortunate that when the Whole World is in the grip of deadly COVID19 Pandemic, The Administration is busy slapping FIRs and intimidating our seasoned journalist like
Peerzada Ashiq, Gowhar Geelani and they have gone one step ahead by booking freelance female Photographer miss Masrat Zehra under Draconion UAPA is nothing but blatant use of power.
Bhat advocated freedom of speech and expression as guaranteed by the Indian Constitution for the fourth pillar of Democracy and demanded the revocation of FIR against them immediately, it said (KNS)
