Srinagar, June 16 (KNS): Abdul Haq Khan, Minister for Rural development and Panchayati Raj today formally launched UMEED Scheme, the poverty alleviation project under J&K State Rural Livelihoods Mission in Tral Block of district Pulwama. The Scheme is aimed to provide better livelihood facilities to the women particularly in rural areas by showing them a sustainable path to capital.
After inauguration of the UMEED Scheme in the Block, Ab. Haq Khan addressing the gathering said that the Scheme has already brought great hope for poor women in not only to come out of poverty but also raise their status within the communities. The Scheme is extensively based on capacity building and strengthening of community based institutions by federating women at different levels. He said the Government is committed for bringing revolutionary changes in the economic stability of the state particularly in rural areas. The Minister praised the perseverance of women and her role in nation building. He also stressed the gathering to come forward towards this welfare based programme and assured them of complete support and handholding from the side of government.The Minister suggested people should come forward to make this block as the best example within the state.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Mission Director J&K SRLM DR. G. N. Qasba also spoke on the occasion and said that with the launch of the Scheme in Block Tral, it has covered the 23rd Block within the state. He said the Scheme will not only help women in engaging themselves in gainful livelihoods but will also contribute in the overall development of society. He congratulated the women of Tral for coming into the fold NRLM. He added there is an estimate of 600 groups which the mission sees to mobilize within the block.
A group of women from UMEED Block Pulwama shared their experiences of positive change and confidence they have experienced by associating with the Self help groups of UMEED.
Speaking at the event Hon’ble DDC assured to support and monitor the programme to ensure people get maximum benefit. He appreciated for the launching of women development Scheme in Tral Block and anticipated a big turnaround in the lives of poor families of the block.
The Minister was accompanied by Hon’ble MLA Tral, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, Mission Director JKSRLM DR G N Qasba, Hon’ble Deputy Commissioner Tral Muneer-ul-Islam, Additional Mission Director JKSRLM, Mr. Nazir Ahmad Lone besides other senior officer of the administration. (KNS)
