Srinagar, May 08 (KNS): Despite failing to provide adequate electricity to them since last one month, the consumers in Handwara villages here received ‘unexpected’ monthly electricity bills here.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), the residents of Handwara villages said that they have received unexpected monthly electricity bills that too when the whole Handwara reeled under darkness for last one month.
“It is unfortunate that the huge amount has been charged from the consumers despite supplying only hour electricity to us in a day,” they said, adding that authorities must look into the matter and should fulfil the demands of locals at an earliest.
Chief Engineer PDD, Hashmat Qazi while talking to KNS said that at least 8-10 hours electricity was being supplied to Handwara villagers regularly. “The transformer there has got damaged and it will take some more days to repair it,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
However, he said that the electricity bills they have received can’t be changed as the department is already taking less charge as compared to the usage.
Earlier, the locals had told KNS that daily 23 hour power cut after the shifting of main power transformer to a workshop for repairs has hit working of main facilities at district hospital Handwara and other business centres in the main town.
As per Kashmir News Service (KNS) correspondent, the transformer got damaged due to mishandling by the local PDD staffers, was taken to a workshop for repairs but is yet to be brought back even after a laps of 15 days.
Earlier on April 22, 2019, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Handwara had written to the Executive Engineer PDD division Handwara, asking him to ensure adequate electricity is supplied to the villages.
However, no action was taken in this regard, locals rued. (KNS)
