Handwara, Sep 18 (KNS): The inhabitants of Kargam village in Handwara area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district have complained that the locality is without drinking water and the concerned department is watching as a mute spectator.

The aggrieved resident told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that they are decrying for the drinking water and the concerned department is paying no attention towards it.

They said that they are getting water from the Pohru scheme and the employees posted there are asking for money to get the connection from said water pipeline.

A local resident said that the employees posted in the area are seeking money for installation of illegal connection and those who are denying to give the money they disconnect their connections.

They said that in the absence of drinking water, residents are being forced to fetch water from nearby streams, which are posing them threat to get infected with water-borne diseases.

They said that the higher officials of the department were informed several times about the same but they don't pay any attention towards it.

Meanwhile, the inhabitants have appealed to the higher officials to intervene in the matter at an earliest.
