Pertinently, the locals alleged that a girl was molested by an army man in Handwara town.
Protests erupted in the area against an incident while three civilians including a woman were killed on April 12.
Following the protests against the Handwara killings, two more youth were killed in subsequent protests in two different areas of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Locals demanded removal of army bunkers from the area, which was accepted by the administration and removed all the three bunkers situated in the town.
The administration had also clamped strict curfew in the area to thwart any possible protests against the killings in the district.
Nonetheless, the administration today decided to lift the restrictions from the area on Wednesday. (KNS)
