Srinagar, May 11 (KNS): Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society Wednesday said that the girl of Handwara who was in “illegal confinement” of police has been released.
“Finally, after 27 days, the illegal confinement of the Handwara minor girl and her family has been ended by the Police. This comes after a sustained campaign in which all legal remedies were used by the family,” Khurram Parvez, spokesman JKCCS said in a statement to KNS.
Khurram said that yesterday, the High Court had sought an affidavit by the family of the girl to end the "protective custody", which will be submitted by the lawyers tomorrow.
“But the police in a pre-emptive manner has ended the illegal detention even before the High Court has announced its decision.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelWe now hope that the Handwara minor girl will de-stress herself and very soon the next steps regarding her struggle for justice will be taken,” he said.
“We thank each one of you who have supported the Handwara minor girl and her family. Insha Allah we all will always struggle together for truth and justice.”
Handwara girl has been in police custody since April 12 following the killings of five civilians during protests against the alleged molestation of the girl by an army soldier.
However, both army and police have denied molestation of the girl by in media and in the court. (KNS)
