Srinagar May 8 (KNS): Chairman People's Democratic Front (PDF) Hakeem Yaseen has hailed the Supreme Court (SC )  order to release prisoners from jails in view of the surge in Coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement issued to Kashmir news service (KNS) on Saturday Hakeem said that the judgement of the Supreme Court on the release of prisoners is laudable and appealed to both the Central government and as well as the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to release all political prisoners of Jammu and Kashmir languishing in different prisons of the country before the forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr “release of political prisoners before Eidul-Fire would be a noble humanitarian gesture on the part of Lt Governor” Hakeem Yaseen maintained.

He urged the Lieutenant Governor to set free prisoners of Jammu and Kashmir before ensuing Eid- ul-Fitr so that they can celebrate this religious festival with their families.

He said releasing prisoners on the Eid festival would be a great humanitarian initiative and also a conference building measure (CBM).

He said the prevailing spike in covid pandemic has made it imperative for the government to decongest all jails by releasing prisoners on bail or parole.

As already reported by media the Supreme Court has displayed the order on its official website which reads “Further we direct that those inmates who were granted parole, pursuant to our earlier orders, should be again granted parole for a period of 90 days in order to tide over the pandemic.”

It also directed the high-powered committees to consider the release of fresh prisoners by adopting the guidelines of the National Legal Services Authority on the issue.(KNS)
