Srinagar, Sept, 14(KNS): Governor N N Vohra and Education Minister Naeem Akhtar on Wednesday discussed initiatives to re-open schools in Kashmir which haven’t opened for past more than two months.
A Rajbhavan spokesman said Vohra and Akhter discussed the urgency to “revive the educational system in the Kashmir division” in a meeting also attended by Commissioner Secretary School Education at Raj Bhavan today.
“Briefing the Governor about the issues involved in making educational institutions functional in the Kashmir Valley Akhtar agreed to take urgent initiatives for the schools to re-open,” said the Raj Bhavan spokesman.
This is the second time that Vohra has held a meeting with Akhtar in past two weeks on re-opening of schools and colleges in the valley.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“Governor had earlier also, on 31st August 2016, held a meeting with Mr. Naeem Akhtar in which all the Vice-Chancellors and others were also present, to discuss issues relating to re-opening schools, colleges and universities in the Valley,” said the spokesman.
He said the Governor has been expressing serious concern over the irreparable damage suffered by students at all levels, particularly school students, from the closure of the entire educational system due to prevailing unrest in the Kashmir Division. “… and has been repeatedly stressing the need for all required initiatives being taken to enable the near 14 lakh school students in the Valley to resume their studies.” (KNS)
