Srinagar, Oct 31 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh on Sunday said that guns and stones should be dropped and replaced with pens and books as nobody in Kashmir wants violence.

Singh, while talking to reporters in the sidelines of J&K police Marathon event in Srinagar, said that the security forces specially the armed forces always try to organize these events for people especially for children and youth in order to boost their confidence. 

"Earlier, Jashn-e-Dal program was organized at Dal Lake and cycle race event. These events are organized to create a sense of confidence among the youth to make them competent in every sphere," he said. 

Singh said that today’s program was organized to promote peace and unity as on 31st October is celebrated as National Unity Day, so they have organized this marathon event for promoting peace and unity, in which more than 700 people including middle aged people and children took part. 

"I appreciate and congratulate all the participants and winners of this event for their excellent performances. All the participants took part in the event with great zeal. I congratulate armed police for conducting this event," he said. 

Replying to a question, he said that situation is quite under control and the people only want peace as they are against all forms of violence. "The people have condemned all the recent incidents and have always cooperated with the security forces. Many children today participated in this event which is absolutely a positive step towards peace and development."

He said that the violence has created an atmosphere of fear and anxiety among every citizen of the valley. "Now there should be pens and books in place of guns and stones. Youth should focus on their future so that development takes place in the Valley," he said. (KNS)
