Demands release of all political prisoners on payroll

Srinagar,18 May (KNS): Former minister and Senior Vice President J&K Peoples Conference Abdul Gani Vakil today slammed the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha led government for risking the lives of political prisoners of J&K who are languishing in several jails in and outside the Union Territory.

In a statement issued here to Kashmir news service (KNS), Vakil said that only two weeks ago a senior Hurriyat leader lost his life during his imprisonment.
"The current wave of coronavirus has been deadly. There are reports of various jails engulfed by the virus. The govt is neither providing them sufficient medical aid, vaccination to them nor they are being released on the payroll even after the High Court directions. This is complete insensitivity towards the inmates in jails," Vakil said.
He urged the Minister for Home Affairs and the Lt Governor to release all the political prisoners not involved in serious crimes especially political prisoners in these challenging times. "We are all human beings and it doesn't behove the largest democracy like India to throw lives of its political opponents and other prisoners in jails. On a humanitarian basis, they should be released. That is how civilised nations behave," he said.

He also appealed to people to adhere to Covid19 guidelines and SOP's, as Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a surge in covid positive cases each day. It is time to take precautions and help the administration in fighting the covid19, Vakil added.(KNS)
