Jammu, Feb 05 (KNS): Gareeb Democratic Party Jammu and Kashmir president Bashir Ahmad Ahangar has appealed to the LG administration

that poor and marginalized people shall not be evicted from their land holdings and dwelling units.

In a statement, Ahangar expressed regret that the indigent farmers, labourers and other landless people were being dispossessed of their marginal land holdings despite the assurances of the Lt. Governor.

He claimed that few influential people were left untouched, while the government has launched a full scale eviction drive against the poor and un-influential, creating massive resentment amongst the common masses.

He urged the LG to issue a written order to stop demolition proceedings against the poor and other homeless people.

Ahangar also said prolonged central rule was a negation of the constitutional guarantees enshrined in the constitution of India.

He said several assurances by the centre about restoring statehood to J&K at appropriate time have failed to inspire the people of J&K.

“Economy of the region is worsening despite the tall promises of development, investment and job creation. The erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir lags far behind. Handicrafts, agriculture. horticulture and other sectors have hugely suffered. Instead of creating new employment opportunities, daily wagers, contractual employees, casual labourers, scheme workers, and others, are either not getting their wages regularly or are being altogether denied their dues,” he said.
