Govt duty-bound to listen to aggrieved transporters of Kashmir: Kadfeen

Srinagar, June 19 (KNS) : Congress leader Kadfeen Choudhary on Friday urged government to become considerate over the plethora of hardships being faced by the transporters in Kashmir, stating that a holistic view to address their grievances is need of the hour.
In a statement issued to KNS , Kadfeen said that the private transporters in Kashmir valley have been battling all odds in order to make ends meet and that in view of the crises that emerged due to the outbreak of COVID -19, these ill-fated traders have been left in lurch and the fresh restrictions imposed by the government have plunged them into a deep state of perturbation.
He maintained further that through thick and thin, the transporters have been providing respite to the people connecting the otherwise inaccessible areas to the main towns. “Post-August 5, if there is any sector that has been worst affected, it is the sector of transport. Now at present when the government is in an active mode of lifting the lockdown, the need of the hour is that this sector should not be allowed to suffer. The government is very much duty-bound to allow the transporters to earn a livelihood by allowing them to operate at the designated routes,” said Kadfeen.
He added that it is ironic that on one side, the government is allowing the government-owned SRTC to ply its buses on the roads and on the other hand is adopting frighteningly harsh approach vis-a-vis the private transporters in Kashmir.
The Congress leader has suggested that the government must hold serious consultations with the representatives of the local transporters listen to their woes and accordingly devise a mechanism by virtue of which people associated with this sector are provided a sigh of relief on priority. (KNS)
