Srinagar, Feb 27 (KNS): Despite ban on conversion of agricultural land and frequent appeals by the farmers in Pulwama district, the administration has failed to take any action against those who illegally convert agricultural land into barren land.
Residents in Pulwama villages are up against the authorities for not acting to stop some farmers from converting agriculture land into barren land by planting poplar trees.
The residents in villages in Ratnipora, Lajoora, Puchal and other adjacent villages told KNS that some farmers have planted poplar trees in productive paddy land from the last few weeks when the sowing season started.
The residents said that unscrupulous farmers taking advantage of the uneasy situation prevailing in the district have been planting poplar trees which makes the paddy land of other farmers barren.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“When one farmer in any area plants poplars in his land, the nearby plots of land became barren,” the farmers told KNS.
The residents blamed the district administration and revenue officials for showing laxity in against these farmers.
“We complained to the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Neeraj Kumar, about it month ago when some farmers illegally planted polar trees in productive agricultural land. He assured us to take action, but as of now his assurance remain confined to his office only,” the residents said.
Kumar told KNS that he will send the Tehsildar concerned to inspect the area and take action against the farmers who violate laws. (KNS)
